Hello 2018

So here we are in 2018, I’m sure we’ll all probably spend the next month writing 2017 on every single piece of paper at work, Uni or College but never mind. Today I thought I’d talk about my goals for 2018, I don’t like calling them resolutions as often we don’t stick to them. These aren’t a complete overhaul of my behaviour or habits they are just small changes I can make to my lifestyle and goal posts to strive towards over the next 12 months and afterwards.

My first goal is to successfully finish my final Semester of Uni, complete my exams, hand in my dissertation and not have a complete meltdown. If I can do this I’ll have accomplished 2018. Fingers crossed by the end of 2018 I’ll have graduated with a degree under my belt and will move onto the adult world. I’m sure I’ll probably be tearing my hair out between now and May (most likely next week in the run up to my exams) but hopefully I’ll be okay.

Next I want to continue to grow my blog, wanderingmeg.com was born in 2017 and it will turn 1 at the end of this month. My goal for 2018 is to continue to produce more content I’m proud of and hopefully reach a wider audience so that it gives me more opportunities. I’ve already had the pleasure of working with a handful of brands producing content and attending blogger events, so hopefully this year will bring even more surprises my way.

A reasonably simple aim is to read at least 20 books this year, I always set myself a goodreads reading challenge, 20 seems achievable and realistic and anything else on top is a bonus. I’ve got plenty of new books for Christmas to kick start me and I always tend to read more in holiday periods throughout the year so I’ll keep you up to date in Favourites posts what I’ve been reading.

You may have noticed in a few recent posts I’ve started buying more cosmetics and toiletries that are plastic free or Naked, the goal for this year is to try and reduce my plastic waste as much as I can. I recycle what I can but plenty of everyday items and packaging are non recyclable so I’m going to try and cut down how much of it I buy in the first place. This could mean buying loose fruit and veg that’s not in a packet and using solid versions of my usual shampoos and moisturisers. Another tip is to reuse bottles and packets and put them to use elsewhere in the home. In addition to this, I really really want to get all of my products cruelty-free! I’ve been attempting this for the past year and I think that this year I might be able to properly nail it. I’ve nearly used up any remaining products I won’t be re-buying and I’m much more aware of what brands to buy and not to buy from!

I want to continue attempting my capsule wardrobe, for the past few months it’s worked really well for me, I’ve never struggled finding something to wear and I love all the pieces I own. This year I want to continue that, I’m going to try not to fall into the trap of buying loads of new holiday clothes over summer. I’ve also got a couple of new wardrobe based books to read so hopefully that will give me some more insight into getting the most out of my more minimal wardrobe.

I know everyone always says this one but I do want to try and eat a little healthier from now on, I’m not saying no unhealthy foods or treats, I love a snack as much as the next person. I don’t want to do this to lose weight I just feel better and more energetic when I eat properly. I’m also going to try and stick to planning and prepping my meals so I don’t get tempted to eat a pile of toast for my dinner instead of an actual meal. I love cooking from recipes and usually have a good stock of cupboard ingredients to hopefully this should be quite easy for me to stick to. Even if it only means adding an extra portion of veg to whatever I’m eating it can’t do me any harm!

Finally I want to try and travel to some new countries this year too. As I’m sure you have guessed I love going to new places and last year I enjoyed exploring plenty of places including Budapest, Barcelona and Austria, this year I want to add to that list. I already have a family holiday to Lanzarote planned so we can all just chill and relax and also 2 trips to London in June and October! However I want to try and explore a little further afield again, I love a good city break but I also love being in the middle of nowhere and stumbling across a piece of history. Eventually I want to do some proper travelling to multiple countries but I’m not sure when that will be so I should probably get planning!

    Love this!! I also want to make healthier meals this year, shall we get our cook books out and do some meal planning together when we’re back at uni!? X
