January Favourites

So as we finally leave the January blues behind after what feels like a lifetime and enter into February, I thought it would be nice to talk about a few things that I’ve been loving this last month.

I managed to read 4 books in January which I was pretty impressed with considering I also had to deal with uni exams straight after the Christmas break. My top pick of these was Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel. The book follows the story of Maisie, a high school student who has to deal with the trauma and aftermath of an accident, whilst also receiving a face transplant. This book gave an interesting insight into the lives of those who have a disability or disfigurement and how much it can have an affect on both confidence and socialising. Faceless really put into perspective the everyday complaints that you or I may make about something as insignificant as a spot, something I will remember next time I’m moaning about my bad skin day.

After receiving a mountain of Lush products at Christmas I am currently working my way through a variety of shower gels, my favourite at the moment is the Halloween Special Edition- Lord of Misrule. This bright green bottle carries quite a heavy, unisex scent, which is just what I was looking for as appose to my usual sickly sweet choices. Although currently not in stock, keep your eyes peeled later in the year for its return, until then I’m looking forward to trying some of the new Valentines Day collection.

Fashion wise I’ve been in a bit of a rut over the colder months as all I want to do is live in my never ending pile of roll neck jumpers, black Joni jeans and my trusty Serena, Doc Marten boots. However, recently I fell into Zara and left with a slightly damaged bank account (I went a little mad in the sale- only 2 jumpers, 3 bodysuits, a bag, a pair of Mid Rise Embroidered Skinny Jeans and a t-shirt…) after purchasing what I am now considering my denim pride and joy. Although to some these jeans may not seem all that adventurous, I feel secretly sassy when I see the floral embroidery on the hip and thigh and they make a nice change to my uniform of completely plain skinny jeans.

An oldie but goldie is the Zoeva Cocoa Blends eyeshadow palette(£18) which I have loved for so long that I have hit pan on nearly all the colours- leading me to repurchase it in the most exciting new format. The Plaisir Box (£48) includes 3 of Zoeva’s most loved warm tone palettes in a gorgeous storage box which I have been keeping pride of place in my makeup collection. Each shadow is totally wearable and give a lovely finish due to their buttery texture. These are THE best eyeshadows I have ever used and at the fraction of the cost of other cult favourites and I’ve had my fair share of luxury palettes.

My TV favourite of the month (even though I’ve been watching on Skygo because I’m that behind the times on this one) is Lost. For those of you that don’t know, the series focuses on the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island, who have to adapt to live on their own when they realise no rescue mission is coming. I’m only 3 series in so I have a long way to go, but me and my boyfriend Josh are speeding through it, I love it because as every episode finishes I’m left with yet more questions…so I just have to watch 3 more episodes to find out the answers. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the overall ending but I’m keeping an open mind and hoping that because, unlike those watching when it originally aired, I do not have to wait for 5 years to find out if they will ever actually escape the Island.

Apologies for the ramble but it is my first ever one of these and I really do just love all of these things! Let me know what you’ve been loving recently in the comments, I’m so nosy I like hearing other peoples recommendations.

Meg x
